Two French models are on the podium of the best-selling electric cars in France in 2021. But neither is in first place. They are dethroned by the Tesla Model 3, with 24,911 units delivered, according to the classification established by AAA Date, reports Capital.
If the automotive market has almost stagnated in 2021, with 1.66 million new cars sold in France, the electric market is doing well. 162,000 electric vehicles were sold last year, according to NGC-Data. That is an increase of 45.6% compared to the previous year. According to AAA Data, electricity even reached 15% market share in December 2021. “It’s not far from diesel, which continues to decline. It now represents only 17% of sales compared to 71% in 2009”, specifies the firm.
Significant progress for Dacia
Growth that can be explained in particular by the success of Tesla. The manufacturer has lowered its prices to ensure that this model is eligible for the ecological bonus of 6,000 euros. Second place is occupied by the Renault Zoé, with 23,573 units sold, followed by the electric Peugeot 208, with 17,858 sales. These models are followed by the Dacia Spring, which experienced significant growth with 11,500 units sold. A success that can be explained by its price: less than 13,000 euros after deduction of the bonus.
The first SUV in the ranking is in 7th place: the Kia e-Niro. This one is however at the end of its career, with a new model which must replace it this year. 6,305 units were sold, more than the Volkswagen ID3, which struggles to convince, just like the ID4 model. The year was not much easier for Opel, with seven times less sales for the electric Corsa compared to the electric Peugeot 208, despite many similarities and a lower price.
