According to a new rumor, Apple will soon launch its Apple TV application on Android. A way for the Apple brand to boost its TV service and attract more subscribers to Apple TV+.
Apple launched the Apple TV application at the end of 2016, and it is available on the brand’s devices as well as on most recent televisions (Samsung, LG, Roku TV, Amazon Fire TV, etc.).
Despite its 6 years of existence, the application is still not available on Android smartphones. Or, that could soon change if ShrimpApplePro on Twitter is to be believed. Indeed, the Cupertino company was preparing an Android version of its Apple TV application internally.
Subscriber Recruiter on Android
Apple TV for Android would arrive “very soon” on the Play Store, according to the informant, without giving a precise date. The application is already available on Android TV boxes, but an arrival in the Android ecosystem will make it possible to recruit more subscribers to Apple TV+, the firm’s SVOD platform.
We should expect a complete and functional application on Android smartphones, just like the Apple Music application which is already available on the Google application store. Android device users will then have the option of buying or renting films and series, but above all of subscribing to Apple TV+, Apple’s streaming service, directly from the application. To date, they can only access it via the web version.
In any case, this opening on Android will allow the firm of Tim Cook to grow its base of subscribers to Apple TV +, which is still far behind the giants of the streaming market like Netflix, Prime Video and Disney +. And the apple brand will take the opportunity to show that it is opening its services to more users outside its ecosystem.
Apple TV for Android is expected to be introduced sometime in 2023.
