Pepsi seems to doubt the autonomy of the Tesla Semi with its full load. The beverage giant does not use the electric truck for its long journeys with large loads.

For several months, we have known that PepsiCo is one of Tesla’s biggest customers for its Semi. The soda producer is already using the electric truck, since it has recovered 36 copies in California.

Its Sacramento site has received 21, while it currently runs 15 around Modesto. And when we say “around”, it’s because the Semi doesn’t make long trips with a heavy load.

PepsiCo fills the trailers of the Semis to the maximum when they have to transport light products like chips. On the other hand, to transport soda, Tesla electric trucks are only used for short trips.

This was named by Vice President Mike O’Connell. The executive explains that the company limits the trips of the Semi when it is full. However, Elon Musk recently assured that he can travel 800 kilometers with the maximum load.

“PepsiCo’s new Semis can carry Frito-Lay food products approximately 680 km”O’Connell said. “But for heavier loads with sodas, the trucks make trips of about 160 kilometers. »

We can therefore wonder if PepsiCo prefers to limit the risks of seeing one of its trucks break down, at least while the drivers get used to this new vehicle. No doubt comments on the actual range of the Semi at full load will soon be the subject of comments.
