SEOUL, 18 Dec. (Yonhap) — The heads of South Korea’s Samsung Group and Germany’s BMW automotive group have explained ways to strengthen their battery partnership, namely Samsung this Sunday.
Samsung Group’s de facto boss Lee Jae-yong met with BMW Chairman Oliver Zipse at the BMW Driving Center in Incheon, just west of Seoul, on Saturday for a deeper partnership in battery business, according to Samsung Electronics Co.
Lee also serves as chairman of tech giant Samsung Electronics.
At the driving center, BMW held a ceremony to deliver 10 all-electric i7 sedans equipped with fifth-generation prismatic batteries from Samsung SDI Co., the statement said.
The BMW chairman said that Samsung was an important partner for its electrification business and it was significant that Samsung executives opted for the BMW i7.
Samsung SDI has been supplying automotive batteries for the i3 plug-in hybrid vehicle, i8 plug-in hybrid sports car, iX electric SUV and i4 pure electric four-door coupe since 2013.
