Oppo promises 4 years of Android updates for its smartphones

There is progress at Oppo, with the Chinese manufacturer now promising 4 years of Android updates for its smartphones. There will even be 5 years of security updates. It has joined other manufacturers who have adopted a similar policy, the latest being OnePlus.

In a press release, Oppo reveals that its deployment of Android 13 (with the ColorOS 13 overlay) was the fastest in the company’s history. ColorOS 13 has been rolled out to 33 devices so far, up 50% from the same period Oppo offered Android 12 (ColorOS 12) last year. The rollout began with the Find X5s in August, just days after the Google Pixel phones, and has expanded significantly ever since.

Regarding the new policy of 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security updates, Oppo says that this will concern its high-end models which will arrive as early as 2023.

By itself, Samsung, OnePlus and Oppo are doing better than Google, while the company is behind the development of Android. The first three companies provide 4 years of Android updates, where Google only offers 3 for its Pixel smartphones. Google, on the other hand, is at the same level as the others when it comes to security updates.
