The MatePad Pro 11 has the luxury of carrying a double dorsal photo module, where its competitors only have one. Is this a real asset on a product whose format is not very practical for capturing daily shots? Not sure, but here Huawei offers both a module with wide-angle optics and a 13-megapixel sensor, and an 8-megapixel module with ultra-wide-angle optics.
Main module: 13 megapixels, f/1.8
The tablet comes out with the honors for what is due to its main module, the tablets often being struggling on this point. The shots are on the whole detailed, with a fairly accurate colorimetry, although slightly pale on certain elements. However, it does not do as well as Apple’s slate, which offers much higher sharpness and less smoothing, despite a less defined sensor. We appreciate a fairly well-preserved sharpness on the periphery of the image.
Low lighting has increased in difficulty with the MatePad Pro 11. Between a very significant smoothing and difficulties in managing exposure, it must be admitted that the shots are not very usable when the light is lacking.
Ultra wide-angle module: 8 megapixels, f/2.2
The MatePad 11 Pro is more generous than average with its 8-megapixel module with ultra-wide-angle optics. This is an option that is rarely found on competing models, and which allows, on occasion, to take a few shots, which certainly lack detail, but which remain legible in good lighting conditions. At night, the image is far too burnt to be usable.
Front and video module
A 16-megapixel sensor, combined with wide-angle optics (f / 2.2) sits on the front of the MatePad Pro 11. It allows you to take photos of decent quality, although tending to smooth textures and struggling to control exposure. We regret the absence of portrait mode, also valid for the back module of the device. On the video side, the tablet allows you to film in 1080p on the front and up to 4K on the back, without stabilization.
