Google has announced the availability of the universal Matter protocol on Google Nest and Android products. It is now possible to pair together its connected devices via Google Home, regardless of the manufacturer.
More than a month after the launch of version 1.0 of Matter, Google has made this universal platform available on all its connected objects. As expected, the tech giant directly updated its fleet of devices to make them automatically compatible.
Connect all objects through a single platform
With its iOS 16.2 update, Apple did not just bring a collaborative work application or a karaoke mode. The apple giant also made the Matter protocol available. Google is following suit and has made its devices compatible with this new standard. Whether it’s a Google speaker, a screen, a smoke detector, a thermostat or even a video doorbell from the brand, all these objects can be connected and controlled via a hub. compatible.
Conversely, having a Google Home Speaker, Google Home Mini, Nest Mini, Nest Audio, first and second generation Nest Hub, a Nest Hub Max or Nest Wifi Pro allows you to control objects from other brands that are Matter compatible. .
Nest Wifi Pro, Nest Hub Max and Nest Hub first and second generation can be used as Thread routers. This protocol uses less energy by paying for a mesh network and thus connecting a maximum of objects together in a house.
Pair objects quickly
Google announces that this update brings Matter support for the Fast Pair system of Android devices. Thus, it is now easier to pair objects connected to the home network, to Google Home or to any other Matter compatible application. With the arrival of this great universal protocol, compatible objects have a badge indicating this. Google recommends taking a good look at the presence of this badge if people want to acquire a connected object for the home to be controlled with Google devices.
Google and Samsung have collaborated to bring, from 2023, a simplified multi-administration functionality. The giant explains that by opening the Google Home application, it will be possible to see Matter compatible objects already connected via Samsung Smart Things. An option will make it easy to pass these objects to Google Home and vice versa. Finally, early next year, Matter on Google Home will be compatible with iOS.
