Apple will launch iPadOS 16.1 on October 24 and aims for productivity

On the sidelines of the presentation of its new iPads, Apple has just announced that iPadOS 16.1, the final version of iPadOS 16, will finally arrive on October 24, that is to say about a month and a half after iOS 16 for smartphones.

This new version of the operating system will be available as a free software update for iPad (5th generation and later), iPad mini (5th generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), and all iPad models. ‘iPad Pro.

First and foremost manager

The main novelty obviously lies in Stage Manager. This feature makes it possible to transform Apple tablets into imitation laptops by allowing applications to be run in windowed mode and connection to an external screen with a maximum resolution of 6K.

Users will be able to create overlapping windows of different sizes or open applications from the Dock in order to create groups of applications. The Cupertino company ensures that the bugs encountered so far on the beta – and which explain the late launch of this new version of iPadOS – have been corrected.

iPadOS 16.1 offers enhanced capabilities for the iPad Pro display, including new elements and interaction modes, such as standardized undo and redo controls. Applications will work more like on a desktop computer. Also note the possibility of modifying file extensions or displaying the size of folders in Files.

The new version of the operating system dedicated to tablets is aimed a little more at professionals by introducing the Reference mode in due form. The latter allows the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with Liquid Retina XDR display to align with the colorimetric requirements required for calibration or analysis work. A good tool to view all the edits made to HDR photos or videos.

More powerful applications

Apple’s OS also includes major updates to applications such as Messages, Mail and Safari. Like iOS 16, iPadOS 16 lets you edit or retrieve recently sent iMessages, and even mark conversations as unread. In Mail, users can, for example, undeliver an email before it reaches the recipient’s inbox.

Note also the arrival of the new Weather application, which allows you to consult the map to check the weather nearby, the air quality (via a color code) or the temperature. It is now possible to receive a notification in the event of a weather alert in your region, but also to display an animated wallpaper adapted to the weather of the day.
