The MacBook Air lineup has for years come in two screen sizes: 11-inch and 13-inch. Apple has since abandoned the 11-inch format to only offer a 13-inch model. However, the manufacturer could once again market two different screen diagonals for its flagship laptop!
Certainly, technically speaking, Apple currently sells two MacBook Air of different sizes: the 13.3-inch M1 model, and its successor equipped with an M2 chip, with a 13.6-inch screen. But the MacBook Air M1 should disappear from the catalog in the coming months… The new model in question would in fact be much larger, the rumor speaks indeed of a diagonal of 15.6 inches.
15.6 inches to do more
Ross Young, analyst for DSCC (a firm specializing in the screen industry), predicts that the production of the slab of this future MacBook Air would begin in the first quarter of 2023. The presentation of the computer would take place during the spring. If Apple has the idea of a larger MacBook Air, then its screen should not insert mini-LEDs or benefit from a higher display frequency, as is the case on the latest MacBook Pros. (or the 12.9-inch iPad Pro).
The good news is that the 15.6-inch MacBook Air might not cost too much, at least less than the 16-inch MacBook Pro (the 13.6-inch M2 model still starts at €1,499 ). But above all, it would fill a “case” that is currently missing in Apple’s offer, namely a powerful laptop, but not excessively, whose screen would be sufficient on its own. The 13 inches of the MacBook Air often end up being too small and many users end up attaching an external screen!
