The day after the hasty departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, Apple would have “expressed its interest” in the acquisition of the British football team Manchester United.
Manchester United is one of the most popular football clubs in the world. Nicknamed the Red Devils, it is one of the few big clubs to post healthy and positive accounts. The one that fans also call Man United, holds many records.
Manchester United, a legendary club
Listed on the stock exchange for £6.7 million in 1991, it was then bought by American billionaire Malcolm Glazer in 2005. This owner was never dubbed by supporters, which led to the sale of the club.
The tipping point came following the club’s involvement in the European Super League project fomented by several top clubs. But it failed.
A senior club source said:
Things have changed for the Glazers over the past 18 or so months. A lot of people left the club. There have been the perpetrators of the European Super League disaster and there is always the backdrop of fans who dislike them. Basically, they’ve had enough of it all and want to move on.
Apple “expressed interest”
Apple would therefore be interested in buying Man Utd and could make the Red Devils the richest club in the world. Indeed, the Cupertino-based company is valued at more than $2 trillion on the stock market, and has more money in the bank than some countries in the world.
Here is what the Daily Star says:
Manchester United could have significantly more funds than Manchester City and Newcastle if tech giants Apple were to achieve a mass takeover.
Tech giants Apple are targeted for Manchester United takeover [pour] a staggering £5.8 billion […].
CEO Tim Cook is eager to explore the opportunities Manchester United ownership could provide – and will start talks with the banks appointed to oversee the sale, including The Raine Group […].
Part of Cook’s plan could include Apple funding the construction of a new state-of-the-art stadium that would be considered the best in the world.
The Glazers had quoted a price tag of £8.25billion, as the Daily Star Sport exclusively revealed, but they were told the price was unrealistic in the current market.
Besides Apple, another potential buyer is none other than the wealthy Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the boss of the Ineos company.
In any case, it will be interesting to follow this case and learn more about the intentions of Apple, which recently invested a lot of money to acquire the broadcasting rights for MLB and MLS.
