For a few years now, Apple has been developing “Apple TV” apps for different devices, from Android TV boxes to TVs to consoles. But two versions are still missing: Windows and Android. And according to a rumor, the latter would soon be planned.
The rumor comes from a Twitter leak, ShrimpApplePro (he sometimes has good information), and he also announces an update to Apple Music for Android (which is actually quite regular). If Apple follows the same path as the Apple Music app, we can expect a very comprehensive app, perhaps with features missing from iOS devices like Chromecast support.
A long-awaited application
The various Apple TV applications all reproduce more or less the interface of the Apple TV (the box), with some limitations. Mainly, buying and locating content is rarely possible and the option is sometimes removed after the fact. This is for example the case on Android TV: the first iterations allowed purchases, but it is currently impossible for a reason that may seem ironic. Indeed, Apple obviously does not want to pay its tithe to Google for in-app purchases. The “Watch” part, which brings together various services on the Apple box, is obviously limited only to videos from Apple TV + and those from your purchases … made on other devices.
Apple does not want to pay commission to Google: on Android TV, purchases in the Apple TV app are suspended ?
Currently, users of an Android smartphone or tablet have only one way to enjoy Apple content: the service site. The Apple TV app for Android is said to be in beta, with an imminent release, while the version for Windows is still expected in 2023.
